A Revolutionary Project For Decarbonization and Fresh Water Supply
Crude oil tankers typically undertake empty voyages after discharging their cargo.
During these empty voyages, they carry salty seawater in their ballast tanks.
So why not utilize these tankers more effectively?
Instead of carrying seawater, these vessels can transport drinkable fresh water in their ballast tanks.

A tanker vessel loads crude oil in Saudi Arabia and sails to Ceyhan, Tรผrkiye.
While discharging oil to shore, it simultaneously takes in drinkable fresh water into its ballast tanks.
The vessel then returns to Saudi Arabia carrying fresh water. Upon arrival, while discharging the fresh water to the shore, it commences loading crude oil into its cargo tanks.
This cycle continues indefinitely.
This project aims to change that.
- This approach can also be applied to LNG/LPG vessels.
- Tankers can be utilized 30% more efficiently.
- In Tรผrkiye, gas prices are 47 TL per liter at pump stations. A 30% efficiency increase, could reduce oil prices.
- The cost of drinkable fresh water in the MENA region could be reduced by 30%.
- Provides a secure fresh water supply, avoiding reliance on desalination systems.
- Eliminates the investment and maintenance costs of desalination plants.
- Enhances the security of oil trade routes, as vessels will operate on a fixed schedule, making their location predictable months in advance.
- Strengthens trade relations between MENA and Tรผrkiye.
- The Water-Oil and Water-LNG/LPG trade routes do not currently exist. Interested parties and companies could become key player in this new trade sector.
- Increased trade leads to greater regional security in the MENA neighborhood.
- Water-Oil and Water-Gas trade deals could provide an alternative to US dollar-based transactions.
- These trade routes could serve as a milestone step toward a Middle East Union, similar to how coal trade between France and Germany laid the foundation for the European Union.
